1.                  The Inspector must have the following items of equipment and supplies for efficient discharge of his duties : 

a.                  an identification card or letter of introduction;

b.                   large and small sampling triers (89 cm. and 62 cm.;

c.                   sample pan /bucket;

d.                   stapler (1/2  to ¾ heavy duty);

e.                  portable divider (if possible);

f.                    Sewing needles and thread;

g.                   a piece of canvas or heavy gauge polyethylene – one meter by one meter;

h.                  sealing device; 

i.                    a suitcase or box to hold equipment and supplies;

j.                    sample bags or suitable containers of three different sizes for holding 1 kg., 500 grams and 250 grams of seed; they should be  clean, dry containers which can be closed sufficiently tight to prevent leakage or entrance of moisture;

k.                  replacement labels duly authenticated by the Department of Agriculture and sample slips;

l.                    copies of the Act and the Rules and copies of all notifications in the Official Gazette in regard to the Act and the Rules;

m.                sufficient copies of printed forms as required under the Act (Forms III to VI and VIII) or others as needed (Annexure I and II); forms printed on different colour sheets can help in handling;

n.                  a list of notified kinds and varieties;

o.                   stationery and stamps;

p.                   hand lens;

q.                   scissors;

r.                   sealing tape duly authenticated by the Department of Agriculture for sealing holes made by the triers;

s.                   flash light;

t.                    cash for paying cost of seed and the containers when demanded;

u.                  suitable packing material and containers for sending samples to the laboratory;

v.                   photos and samples of seeds of kinds and varieties common in the area; and

w.                 useful references such as the manuals and publications on seed testing, production, certification, processing, storage and the Inspector’s Handbook.
